Abigail Disney, philanthropist and award-winning film producer, delivered a convocation address titled "Peace is Loud" in the Memorial Chapel Thursday, Jan. 28. As part of the same convocation, President Jill Beck presented Disney an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.
The Phi Delta Theta chapter at Lawrence University lost its charter Jan. 22, meaning that the fraternity will no longer be recognized as a part of Lawrence's Greek system. Rumors that the Lawrence administration had a say in the fraternity's undoing circulated around campus, but in a letter to the editor in last week's ****Lawrentian****, former Phi Delta Theta president, Marc Casati, highlighted the administration's innocence in the charter loss.
The team "Lawrence Undead," a group of mostly Lawrence alums who have been playing trivia for years, won the Great Midwest Trivia Contest XLV. The team of self-proclaimed "dedicated players" stayed up for about 39 hours during the two-day nonstop contest. During Trivia, players tune into the Lawrence's WLFM to hear questions read by the trivia masters.
Friday, Feb. 5, 6-7 p.m., Wriston Art Center 224 -- "Theory of the Meat Machine" discussion with artist Gina Rymarcsuk will explain her work, with a reception to follow. The exhibit will be on display in the Wriston Art Center. Sunday, Feb. 7, 1 p.m., chapel -- The Music of Mohammed Fairouz, with Katie Reimer, piano -- Fairouz presents a nontraditional perform spanning several genres, including musical theater, indie rock and Arabic music.
